FAQ

I’m a beginner, is this really for me?

CrossFit Reaction trains people from all walks of life, from the high level athlete to the complete novice. You do not need to come from a set background to be able to train at CFR. We are looking for people with a commitment to working hard toward their goals and a willingness to learn. All of the workouts are scalable to benefit anyone and everyone who train with us. The weight and intensity are adjusted to the individual’s abilities. Our members range in age from 5 to 65; from elite level to the untrained.

What type of fitness program is this; cardio, weightlifting, Kettlebell or calisthenics?

CrossFit is a combination of many things. Its design uses a wide variety of methods to elicit fast and effective results. This also keeps things fun and varied so you never get bored with a mediocre routine.

What takes place during a typical training session ?

When you come in you will see a Skill and WOD (workout of the day) posted on the white board along with the warm-up. The Skill, WOD  and  warm-up change daily. We will go through the warm-up then come together as a group to go over a the skill of the day. Once we practice the given skill, we do the WOD as a group as well.. At least one coach is present during all the training sessions not only to oversee and correct movements where necessary, but to encourage and motive the class as well. Classes usually last about one hour depending on the length of the WOD.

Is this something I can do at home ?

CrossFit can most definitely be done at home. We love seeing people do burpees in the parks and driveways of the world. But there is nothing like the atmosphere and community within a CrossFit gym. What sets CFR apart is our commitment to having the best coaches in the area and also the best members. When you train at CFR you have the watchful eyes of not only the coaches but also its members. People who train at CFR want everyone to be successful and in turn pass their knowledge along to others freely. The environment helps members be more connected to the class and gym. The different classes have friendly competitions which fuels us to work harder to put up better scores. The group atmosphere leads to better and faster results; the power in number can never be under estimated. If you try the workouts at home remember many of the movements have taken our coaches and athletes countless hours to perfect; you will not master them or CrossFit without a serious commitment to getting better.

Will I gain or lose weight ?

Both are possible. At CFR we care little about body weight and more concerned with body composition. We focus increasing lean body mass (muscle mass) and decreasing body fat. Depending on your fitness goals we can focus on what will work best.

Will I get bulky?

You will not be bulky if your only training consists of CrossFit. If you start reducing your body fat and adding lean muscle, you will have a better body composition and become leaner.

If am a an athlete will CrossFit affect my performance ?

CrossFit will most definitely affect your performance– by bettering it! Your physical performance as well as your mental performance will both see significant gains. Training for any specific sport or activity leads to specialization and specialization leads to the development of deficiencies. Adding CrossFit to your in-season and off-season training will help limit these deficiencies and help reduce the risk of injury. CrossFit is also very mentally challenging and the more one trains using CrossFit methods, the stronger they become. CrossFit methods have be proven to work well with professional athletes like UFC fighters BJ Penn and Matt Hughes, NFL Star Ethan Moreau and NFL player Lorenzo Neal.

I still have questions.

If you have more question feel free to stop by and observe a class and chat with the members and coaches. You can also email or call us and we would be glad to answer any question that you may have.
